Agrihoods & Conservation Communities

Agrihoods and conservation communities are gaining popularity as sustainable alternatives to traditional residential developments. Rooted in the principles of regenerative living, these communities integrate agriculture and environmental conservation directly into the fabric of daily life, fostering a stronger connection between residents and the land.

Agrihoods, which revolve around active farms or robust community gardens, offer residents access to fresh, locally grown produce. In contrast, conservation communities focus on preserving natural landscapes and biodiversity, ensuring that the development footprint remains minimal.

Both models prioritize sustainability and ecological resilience, creating environments where people and nature can thrive together.

Agrihoods

At the heart of agrihoods is the philosophy that food production and human habitation should be one in the same. By incorporating working farms into residential spaces, agrihoods reduce food miles, promote healthy eating, and create opportunities for residents to participate in farming activities. These neighborhoods often feature educational programs on sustainable agriculture, giving residents the chance to learn about permaculture, organic gardening, and the broader impacts of their food choices. As a result, agrihoods foster a sense of community, while also addressing critical issues like food security and environmental sustainability.

Conservation Communities

Conservation communities, on the other hand, place a strong emphasis on land stewardship. Developers of these communities work closely with conservation organizations to identify key ecological features, such as wetlands, forests, or wildlife corridors, that should be preserved and protected.

Rather than maximizing the number of homes built, the goal is to integrate human habitation within the existing ecosystem as harmoniously as possible. This may include setting aside large portions of land for conservation easements, restoring habitats, and employing sustainable building practices that reduce energy consumption and water usage.

These communities offer residents a lifestyle centered around outdoor activities, wildlife observation, and a deep appreciation for natural spaces.
