Infusing wellness into real estate with Peter Scialla

We spend over 90% of our time indoors. The spaces in which we raise our families and nourish our bodies and minds, affect almost every aspect of our lives, from how well we sleep to our moods, productivity and overall health.

From the design to materials, every aspect of a building impacts our health and wellbeing. There fortunately is an emergence of science-back research that is helping to increase awareness around health factors such as air and water quality.

Leading this charge has been wellness real estate company Delos. Peter Scialla, Delos’ current CEO and President joined The Regenerative Real Estate Podcast to talk about him and his brother Paul’s background that got them interested in the green building movement.

While most people in the green building movement focused on energy efficiency and building performance, Peter and Paul focused on the staggering statistics around indoor air quality. They realized that there was a real need to partner with scientists to help lead innovations in the built environment.

Delos caters towards a host of different real estate types and has seen an explosion in attention going towards wellness in large part due to the COVID response. This includes not just homes but also hotels, offices, and student dormitories.

Delos is also the parent company for the International WELL Building Institute that offers an evidence-based criteria to support the wellbeing of companies in corporate spaces. WELL is now working across the globe with a building certification and an Advanced Practitioner certification.
