Becoming the World’s Only Living Future Accredited Real Estate Sales Team

For the vast majority of us living in North America, we are living in towns and cities that were built in a by-gone era.

Everything from our houses and office buildings, to our roads, sewers, and bridges were built decades ago. Not only does it mean that our infrastructure is old and in desperate need of repair, but it also means that we are still living with materials, designs, and technologies that will not be sufficient for the needs of tomorrow.

We have learned an incredible amount over the past several decades, mainly that we cannot continue to use finite resources that pollute our environment or use materials that cause irreparable harm to human and biological health.

At Latitude, we like to view ourselves as change agents rather than real estate agents, because the mainstream way that real estate is practiced does not align with the current needs and challenges that we are presently facing. Now is not the time for business as usual. It is not a time to sit idly by thinking, or even hoping, that somebody, somewhere will solve our problems.

We decided that if we desired change, then we would need to change. That would require holding ourselves to a higher standard; seeking out thought-leaders; committing ourselves to a culture of learning and doing. In early 2020 we set an ambitious goal of becoming the world’s only (as far as we know of) real estate team that is accredited by the International Living Future Institute.

This seems only fitting as our first foray into real estate was a Living Building Challenge project. This rigorous certification for building standards is equal parts challenging and inspiring. Working as a team to advance the realization of a built environment comprised of more Living Buildings and Living Communities is a lifelong pursuit that we accept wholeheartedly.

The Living Building Challenge is arguably the world’s most rigorous sustainable building certification.

By becoming Living Future accredited, we want the public to know that we are committed to the realization of a healthy, sustainable, just, and beautiful world. How we seek to serve our clients and neighbors is through placemaking activities that educate, inspire, and bring people together.

As a dual real estate sales and development company, this accreditation is already spilling over into our future real estate projects that are now getting reworked so that they are Net Zero Energy, community-oriented, and ecologically landscaped.
