Ecological Landscaping with Tres Crow

Landscaping is a multibillion dollar a year industry. It’s predicated upon fossil fuels, non-native ornamental plants, synthetic fertilizers, and heavy water use. For Georgia-based company Roots Down, they see this industry as ripe for change.

Roots Down isn’t just another eco-friendly landscaping company. Instead, their focus is to educate landscapers with contracts on large facilities like college campuses, multifamily and office buildings, and municipal parks to embrace ecological landscaping in order to save on costs and help the environment.

They do this through a suite of robust educational trainings for landscaping crews and facilities maintenance personnel. Trainings topics range from permaculture design and species selection, to return on investment by transitioning operations off fossil fuels and non-native plants.

To learn more about Roots Down and their innovative work to create resilient and ecological landscapes, be sure to tune into an interview with Roots Down’s president Tres Crow on The Regenerative Real Estate Podcast.

Show host Neal Collins and Tres discuss how the landscaping industry has largely been left out of larger conversations about sustainability and regeneration. Tres dispels the misconception that ecological landscaping costs more than traditional landscaping, and he describes how productive urban landscapes, when maintained properly, can flourish for decades. Plus, Tres explains solutions that would decrease landscaping’s negative environmental impacts, cut costs, and create beautiful, long-lasting landscapes for communities to enjoy.
