Story of Place

Built Over Generations

Some of the most valuable qualities of a farm take generations to establish. At Fauna Springs, that is especially true of the soil.

For more than a century, this land has supported cattle grazing, haying, gardening, orcharding, and other agricultural uses. Through generations of cultivation and stewardship, the farm has developed soils rich in organic matter. Good agricultural soil cannot be created overnight, and its fertility is one of the property's greatest inheritances.

When the current stewards arrived in 2020, they recognized the value of what had been established before them: fertile ground, water rights, solar exposure, abundant wildlife, and the seasonal movement of water across the landscape. They continued that agricultural legacy with a focus on growing nutrient-dense food while preserving native vegetation and habitat. Reflecting on their six years here, farmer Kris shares, “Together, this farm and I have been watching over each other for six years. I have worked this land with my hands, crafting the gardens with love, and it has been wonderful.”

They planted fruit trees and shrubs, established growing areas, maintained pastures and agricultural ditches, practiced minimal tillage, rotated livestock, and shared food with the surrounding community. Working with the Kitsap Conservation District and other local professionals, they also deepened their understanding of agriculture within this seasonal wetland landscape.

Fauna Springs Farm carries the work of many hands and generations. Its fertile soils, established pastures, orchards, and waterways offer the next stewards an opportunity to participate in a living agricultural legacy and carry it forward.

Room for What Comes Next

For generations, cattle moved through these pastures. The last of the herd was Betsy, a cow who lived to 26 and spent her final years roaming the property, including the paths through the forest.

Imagine animals grazing here again. Cattle, sheep, or horses moving across the rolling pastures. A thriving market garden supplying local restaurants and markets. An orchard in full harvest, fresh eggs gathered each morning, and a new home designed around the rhythms of the land. With fertile soils, established food systems, and water already in place, Fauna Springs Farm offers the foundation for a working farm, equestrian property, multigenerational living, or private country estate.

The historic barn, built in part from cedar and fir harvested on the property in the 1890s, holds possibilities for restoration or thoughtful reuse of its original timbers. The farmhouse, now down to the studs, awaits loving restoration or mindful deconstruction to make way for a new home. Any restoration, construction, or future use is subject to applicable approvals and buyer due diligence.

Between 2017 and 2022, Washington lost more than 3,700 farms. As productive agricultural land faces increasing pressure, places like Fauna Springs Farm represent something larger than a private investment.

“Every time we lose a farm, we lose more than acreage. We lose the soil, infrastructure, and agricultural knowledge that make local food systems possible. Protecting that foundation begins with recognizing its value and keeping it in productive use,” says Neal Collins, Co-Founder of Latitude Regenerative Real Estate.

The next chapter remains open. Nearly twenty acres of soil, pasture, forest, orchard, and water are already here, shaped by generations of stewardship and offering a remarkable foundation for what comes next.

The Five Roots
of Regeneration

● Health & Wellness

Nearly twenty acres of pasture, gardens, mature forest, and moving water invite a life connected to the outdoors. Food, movement, seasonal change, and time spent tending the land can become part of the ordinary rhythms of life here, supporting a closer relationship between wellbeing and place.

● Sustainability

Generations of farming have established fertile soils, approximately nine acres of pasture, and a foundation for continued food production. A private well, agricultural ditches, water rights, centennial apple trees, and perennial food crops offer valuable resources, while minimal tillage, livestock rotation, and composting invite an ongoing practice of working with the land's natural cycles.

● Community

Fauna Springs Farm has long extended beyond its boundaries through shared harvests, plant exchanges, food bank donations, and agricultural learning. Just minutes from downtown Poulsbo and its vibrant local food culture, the farm offers an opportunity to participate in the regional foodshed, building relationships through growing, sharing, and supporting local agriculture.

● Ecology

Pasture, mature forest, ponds, seasonal wetlands, and a meandering creek form a connected landscape within the Lemolo Creek watershed. Wildlife moves between open fields and wooded shelter, while the changing waterways and wetland edges invite close observation and thoughtful stewardship of the living systems that sustain both farm and habitat.

● Spirit

Crossing the small bridge into Fauna Springs Farm brings an immediate change in atmosphere: rolling pasture, old trees, birdsong, and flowing water. The historic barn, centennial orchard, and fertile ground carry the imprint of generations of agricultural life. Here, stewardship becomes a relationship across time, honoring what has been inherited while imagining what can be carried forward.

Land Acknowledgement

Fauna Springs Farm rests within the ancestral homelands of the Suquamish people, who have lived in relationship with the lands and waters surrounding present-day Poulsbo since time immemorial. The broader Kitsap Peninsula is also part of the ancestral homelands of the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe and other Coast Salish peoples, whose relationships with this region extend back thousands of years. The Suquamish and Port Gamble S’Klallam remain sovereign Tribal nations, continuing their cultural traditions, exercising treaty rights, and stewarding their ancestral lands and waters.

The property's documented settler-era agricultural history dates to the 1890s, when early farm structures were built using timber harvested from the land. Generations of cattle grazing, haying, orcharding, and cultivation subsequently shaped the agricultural landscape that remains today.
